Day 2 of VBS (in Romania)

Well, when we left off we had returned for the evening (Tuesday) from VBS and it all started again on Wednesday. Cindy and I weren't allowed to ride in the van (in town) so we got picked up every morning and then had to wait at the meeting point- we had fun though! We arrived (late) but again there were kids there ready to greet us. The morning was very similar to the day before but this is where it got a little interesting! The principal- who, if you remember, didn't want us there began participating in the activities- she even demonstrated how to play the water balloon game. In fact, when my group was outside to play games she was on her way out and she stopped, put her purse down, and asked if she could demonstrate. It was so much fun to watch and see the turn around in her attitude toward us. I think she saw that all we wanted to do was to love the kids and teach them at the same time.

For lunch we didn't end up going to the Bistra again- we went into the city square and ate at.... McDonald's and then did some shopping. We didn't have a lot of time but I was able to get a few things to bring back. We had a good time just walking around and seeing the square- it's beautiful and it's hard to believe that about 18 years ago was when the Romanian Revolution took place and communism began to fall. We actually were standing in the place where that happened and our morning driver was telling us that he was actually there in the square at the time and can remember being in the church when shots were fired. You can still see bullet holes in the walls of the church. I can't imagine and am so thankful for the men and women who fight for our freedoms on a daily basis.

We headed back and it started out the same as before- we had a lot of the same kids but the principal sent all the ones who had been there in the morning home. She wanted the afternoon to be solely focused on the older kids. When everyone had been dispersed we had 18 new students so Cindy and I combined and worked together. They were a lot of fun to watch as they acted out the story of Esther. Of course, after the night was over we headed back to the Bistra and then home for another night of skip-bo- however, we were so tired we didn't stay up that late (oh yeah, and we had some chocolate).

That's our Wednesday- I will fill you in on Thursday- which was the emotional day- tomorrow. Have a great day!
